One of Wales’ largest investment management firms, Brewin Dolphin are sponsoring and taking part in a charity challenge to raise money for the Professional Cricketers’ Association Benevolent Fund (PCA) and Tom Maynard Trust.
The Big Bike Ride takes place on the 18 to 22 October, starting at Durham County Cricket Club and ending at Lord’s five days later after covering a total of 441 miles.
A field of seven Brewin Dolphin employees will be amongst the 60 riders taking part in the charity cycle that aims to raise £200,000 for the charity.
Alongside Brewin Dolphin staff, a range of talent from the world of cricket will also be lending their support to the challenge including Andrew Flintoff, Darren Gough and Marcus Trescothick.
The PCA Benevolent Fund is part of the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s commitment to helping current and former players and their dependents in times of hardship, upheaval, or to readjust to the world beyond the game.
The Fund also supports players and dependents that need help with medical advice, a much-needed operation, or those who require specialist advice, care or assistance.
The Tom Maynard Trust was set up following the tragic death of Welsh cricketer Tom Maynard in June 2012. The trust helps the development of aspiring disadvantaged cricketers and other sportspeople who may need help with training and education, financial support for overseas placements or assistance with kit and equipment.
David Myrddin-Evans, head of office at Brewin Dolphin, Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause. Both charities make a huge difference to the lives of current and former cricketers and their families. The Brewin Dolphin team which consists of employees from across the group has been training hard in order to prepare for the gruelling 441 mile cycle. We wish the cyclists the best of luck and hope we can raise a considerable amount for the charities.”
Jason Ratcliffe, Assistant Chief Executive of the Professional Cricketers’ Association, said: “The Big Bike Ride will be a huge challenge for all the participants and we are extremely grateful to all those who are taking part and donating. It is great to be able to team up with the Tom Maynard Trust in order to raise a significant amount of money to help upcoming, current and former cricketers and their families. We’re looking forward to seeing all the cyclists and wish them all the best with the tough challenge.”
