Pupils from Kings Monkton School in Cardiff enjoyed a water sports session at Cardiff International White Water recently.
Year 9 and 10 pupils from the independent school, which is now owned by Heathfield Independent Schools, tried kayaking and rafting under the instruction of the centre’s experts.
As part of the school’s new extra-curricular programme introduced by its new owners, pupils will now undertake a six-week programme where they will learn how to kayak, canoe and white water raft.
Bob Newman, the school’s PE teacher, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to try a range of different water sports. Cardiff International White Water is a fantastic venue and the coaching is second to none. All of the pupils who took part had a lot of fun but importantly learnt a lot too. They built confidence, team building skills and got to practice their paddle strokes and we look forward to improving our skills over the next six weeks.”
The co-educational independent school, located in the heart of the city centre, is also introducing climbing at Boulders Indoor Climbing Centre and health related fitness at World Class Fitness Centre during the course of this term and is looking at the possibility of introducing horse riding next term.
Bob continued: “We’re keen to give our pupils the opportunity to try a range of different activities not only for entertainment, social, and enjoyment purposes, but most importantly, to gain and improve skills.”
Kings Monkton School is an independent school for children aged 2 to 16 years old. The school is fully accredited by the Independent Schools Council (ISC) and is also a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA).
