New students to universities throughout Wales are being encouraged to use the mobile services of Traveline Cymru to help them find their way around their new surroundings.
Traveline Cymru’s latest campaign, which launches to coincide with Freshers’ Week, aims to highlight the benefits of using the public transport information service when out and about for free year-round advice.
New students to Wales’ eight top universities can find out more about the services available when Traveline Cymru visits their Freshers’ Fayres in coming weeks.
To celebrate Freshers’ Week, Traveline Cymru has launched a competition to win the new Apple iPad HD. Students have to simply ‘like’ the Traveline Cymru Facebook page (www.facebook.com/travelinecymru) and enter in their details before the 31st October to win.
As well as travel and transport information all year round through facebook and twitter, students can use Traveline Cymru’s free, bilingual app for iphone and android users to plan journeys, check travel alerts, find the nearest bus stop and search for community transport or park and ride information.
There is also the mobile internet site NextBuses.mobi which allows students to access bus times for their nearest bus stop on their smart phones, as well as the Traveline txt service, a simple service allowing bus times to be sent directly to your mobile by texting the unique bus stop code to 84268.
Jo Foxall, marketing manager at Traveline Cymru, said: “When arriving in a new place, it can be hard to find your way around so our mobile services can come in really handy when you’re out and about needing travel information. The number of people using our app grows day by day and a large percentage are in the 18-24 age bracket which proves it’s a hit with students. We’re confident that new students to universities in Wales will find them useful and if they like our facebook page they could also win an iPad.”
