Two winners have been chosen as the winners of a photography competition at Y Bont Faen Primary School.
Herbert R Thomas (HRT) estate agent recently held a photography masterclass for year five where they provided tips for how to take good photos with digital cameras and iPads.
Pupils were asked to take photos of memorable areas in the school to present to the head teacher Mr Griffiths as a leaving gift. Pupils had to upload and edit their photos using the school’s Apple iMacs.
HRT then awarded a prize for the best photo, which was presented to Sebastian Barker and Ben Macey, who were awarded a £25 gift card for the Odeon cinema. The winning photo was of the adventure area within the school, as it was decided this captured the atmosphere of Y Bont Faen.
The photography competition is the latest initiative from Herbert R Thomas, which has been involved in many of the events at the school after sponsoring Y Bont Faen’s PTA.
With the prominence of ICT in the workplace, it is also becoming more important to teach children how to be computer literate and effectively understand how to use technology to a high standard.
Gavin Rees, partner at HRT, said: “As ICT has an increasingly important role in this generation’s world, introducing technology to children at a young age will enable them to be more competent and comfortable with technology when they look to begin their careers. As a local business, we believe it is important to share our experience and knowledge to help develop the skills of children.
“The pupils all seemed to enjoy understanding how to take photos and then using the computers to edit and perfect them. After looking through some truly amazing photographs, we had to narrow it down to one group, which was very difficult. The two pupils who won seemed to really grasp the nature of the school in their photograph. We look forward to more opportunities with Y Bont Faen in the future.”
Mr Griffiths, head teacher of Y Bont Faen, said: “We are very grateful for HRT’s support to be able to run the photography workshop. The pupils had an extremely fun and informative learning experience, and ended up taking some beautiful photographs of the school. I loved looking through all the photos and I will definitely will treasure them as I move on to new challenges.
“We would not have been able to give the children this experience without the help of HRT and we hope to continue a strong relationship with the company.”
HRT was founded in 1926 and has three offices across south Wales in Bridgend, Cowbridge and Neath. It is a multi-discipline property agency specialising in residential sales and lettings, commercial property transactions, property development, auctions and agricultural services.
